Cupping-hijama-Therapy

Did you know that approximately 80% of all people suffer from low back pain at some point in their lives? Low back pain(LBP)is a common musculoskeletal problem globally. Cupping therapy has been used in the treatment of a broad range of conditions, especially effective in relieving persistent non-specific chronic low back pain.

Cupping has become a popular regular physical therapy among many famous athletes such as Michael Phelps and Karim Benzema who consider it as the best recovery therapy. Many athletes enjoy cupping because it relieve muscle soreness after exercise and decreases their recovery time.

If you find yourself in low back pain and have used up all options that generally are used, then Cupping is the solution you are looking for.

What is Cupping?

Cupping is one of the oldest and most effective methods of releasing stagnation in the body’s tissues and organs. It is also known as vacuum cupping, hijama cupping, horn treatment etc. It is a practice in which the therapist puts special cups on the skin to create suction. This causes the tissue beneath the cup to be drawn up and swell causing increase in blood flow to affected area. Enhanced blood flow under the cups draws impurities and toxins away from the nearby tissues and organs towards the surface for elimination.

Modern medicine believes that cupping can stimulate local tissue metabolism, accelerate circulation, and improve local blood supply and absorption of inflammatory substances by releasing surface tension and reducing nerve pulling. Furthermore, it can regulate the autonomic nerves on the blood vessel wall, improve blood supply and oxygen supply between tissues, and improve microcirculation.

Types of Cupping

Technically, there are two types of cupping: dry and wet cupping. Clinical studies have shown that both wet and dry cupping can alleviate low back pain caused by neck and back fascilitis.

Traditional Chinese medicine(TCM) believes that diseases are caused by pathogenic factors that cause the body’s yin and yang to rise and fall, the abnormal rise and fall of the body’s qi, and the dysfunction of qi and blood in the viscera. Cupping can remove cold and dampness, dredge meridians, remove stasis, invigorate qi and activate blood, relieve swelling and relieve pain, remove toxins and relieve heat, etc.

As a natural therapy, cupping therapy is widely used in traditional medicine culture of many countries. Traditional Arabic medicine often uses a type of cupping called “hijamah” (also called Wet Cupping Therapy). Arab medicine believes that hijamah has the effects of smoothing qi, blood and body fluids, removing blood stasis and relieving pain, and promoting health care and expelling evil spirits.

Two different traditional cupping and bloodletting method

Method of pricking the collaterals:  pricking the collaterals with acupuncture, and then cupping the blood in a glass jar for 10 minutes. It should be performed once a week for one month of treatment.

Slicing method:  cupping the points for 15 minutes with an air suction can, and then quickly cut the skin with a scalpel when the skin becomes stasis, and use the gas cup to bleed for 10min. It should be performed once every two weeks for one month of treatment.

How cupping therapy works

Cupping can puts pressure on the area causing the pain, and blood flow within the blood vessels and capillaries begins to increase, which reduce joint or muscle pain naturally and release the tension in the body tissues.  doing so can relax these sore muscles, relieve neck and back pain, relax tired and tense muscles, and effectively relieve pain caused by fasciitis of back neck muscles.

The vacuum negative pressure generated by cupping has a strong suction and pulling force, and its suction and pulling force acts on the meridian points, which can suck open the pores and make the skin hyperemia, so that the pathological products in the body are sucked out of the body from the skin pores, so that the qi and blood of the meridians can be dredged, and the functions of the zang-fu organs can be adjusted to achieve the purpose of preventing and treating diseases.

Cupping therapy is essentially the opposite of typical massage therapy. Rather than applying pressure to different parts of the body to heal, cupping uses suction to pull skin, tissue, and muscles upward, forcing fresh blood to areas with pain, and in doing so helps initiate and speed up the healing process.
