Acupuncture

It is a form of treatment that involves inserting very thin needle through a person’s skin at specific points on the body to various depths.

What is Acupuncture?

Acupuncture is part of the ancient practice of Traditional Chinese Medicine(TCM) and has been practiced for thousands of years to treat many health issues, which involves the insertion of very fine, disposable, stainless steel needles into the surface of your skin at specific acupuncture point locations on your body. The goal of acupuncture is to balance the physiological functions of the body to promote and maintain health.

In traditional Chinese medicine, it’s believed that the human body has more than 2,000 acupuncture points connected by pathways or meridians. These pathways create an energy flow (Qi, pronounced “Chee”) through the body that is responsible for overall health. Traditional Chinese medicine practitioners believe the health issues and conditions develop due to an imbalance or blockage of your qi, also referred to as your flow of energy or life force, through the various pathways in your body. By applying acupuncture to certain points, it is thought to restore flow of Qi, thereby balance and improve your symptoms and your health.

Studies have shown that acupuncture is effective for a variety of conditions and has few side effects. It is encouraged that you could try it alongside conventional medical care. If you choose to see an acupuncturist, we suggest that you need to find a practitioner who is licensed as having proper training and credentials.

Acupuncture benefits

Acupuncture points are believed to stimulate the central nervous system. This, in turn, releases chemicals into the muscles, spinal cord, and brain. These biochemical changes may stimulate the body’s natural healing abilities and promote physical and emotional well-being.

Studies have shown that acupuncture is an effective treatment alone or in combination with conventional therapies to treat the following:

  • Nausea caused by surgical anesthesia and cancer chemotherapy
  • Dental pain after surgery
  • Addiction
  • Menstrual cramps
  • Fibromyalgia
  • Myofascial pain
  • Osteoarthritis
  • Carpal tunnel syndrome
